 less haze | klemmg
(1719) [2005-11-28 15:49:36] [1] | Hi Marius,
Here is a variation with less haze.
In PS CS, I did the following:
- readjusted black point in "levels" (picked up black pipette tool., clikced on dark grey eye and thereby re-defined as black).
This had the main effect. Further:
-added saturation to try for a blue sky ->not much effect
- then replaced the pale blue selectively with a stronger blue hue ("replace colour")
- the blue came out with many artifacts and noise, so I used the NeatImage plug-in to reduce noise and sharpened a bit while I was at it.
The resulting picture has a different feel to it, maybe not what you were aiming for.
However, the funny facial expression you captured is more obvious.
Hope you like this variation of your great picture.
Regards,

change of OE area | klemmg
(1719) [2005-11-27 15:52:52] | Hi Kim,
Could not stop myself, so here are some additional changes to get rid of the bright OE area.
In Photoshop CS:
-selected area with lasso tool to change only this area
-went to curves and fiddled around with it until I had some feather structures, be it with very strange colours
- desatureated the area to black and white
Then I had to deal with the harsh line between edited area and rest of the picture.
I selected the area/line where the two meet with lasso tool and applied lense blur to the selection. Then I deselected and worked again on the whole area.
The transition between original and edited areas was still not smooth enough, so I used the smudge tool to make it a bit smoother. It is still far from perfect but hopefully it shows the idea: change the area until some structure shows, desaturate (->b+w), blend in.
Hope you like this additional variation of your great picture.

Gabi |

 re-defined black point | klemmg
(1719) [2005-11-27 15:22:39] [1] | Hi Kim,
I used Photoshop CS to re-define the blcak point. I went to "levels", picked up the black pipet tool, clicked on the dark grey blackground thereby redefining that to black. This brings out the colours more and gets rid of the slightly washed-out look.
Nothing else changed. Hope you like this variation of your great picture.

 - noise + sharpness | klemmg
(1719) [2005-10-26 17:08:27] [1] | Hi Omar,
Noise reduced with NeatImage (demo version available via internet). Unfortunately no sufficiently even area to analyse the noise, so it was less successful than usual. Also sharpened a bit with NeatImage. Could be more improved by using blur-lense blur (PS) on the BG to make it smoother (no time for doing a nice mask-I'm awfully slow with these things). Hope you like this version of your excellent capture!

(1719) [2005-09-21 15:28:09] | I used NeatImage to reduce the noise (on "automatic" settings) and sharpened. Also adjusted levels in PS (levels did not result in much difference).

Levels: redefined black- and white point | klemmg
(1719) [2005-09-19 18:14:41] | Hi Paul,
adjusted levels by redefining black and white (How to do: see my previous workshop of today, I use PS CS); this usually makes the colours look much more vivid and gets rid of any slight greyish cast.
Hope you like this variation of your great shot!Regards,

Levels: redefined black point | klemmg
(1719) [2005-09-19 17:42:12] [2] | Hi Stephen,
the colours seemed a bit dull/greyish in this one (especially when compared with the shiny black frame), so I adjusted the levels, in particular, I redefined the dark grey of the damselfly stripes to actual black. In PS CS, it is easily done by choosing levels, then using the left "pipette", which is the black one, and point it on a part of the picture that is supposed to be back. Did the same with the white point (right pipette) but with less noticeable effect; here I defined it by pointing it to the white reflection in the eye (easier done when you zoom in). The middle grey pipette I left alone.
Hope you like!
