(9335) [2008-05-20 16:34:57] [5] | Hi Adrian
I just wanted to address the shadow aspect in the underwing and for that I only used the "Shadow/Highlight" tool with no other optimisation done.
Post Processing done:
1. Adjusted the "Shadow/Highlight" settings at the following values:-
-- Shadows:
-- Amount = 43%
-- Tonal width = 43%
-- Radius = 30px
-- Highlights:
-- Amount = 15%
-- Tonal width = 50%
-- Radius = 30px
-- Adjustments:
-- Colour correction = +20
-- Midtone contrast = +46
2. Chose "Save for Web".
I hope you approve of the slight enhancement done.
Best regards

I hope you don't mind me doing a workshop on this lovely posting of yours. It really is such a great shot so I am just doing this fun workshop to crop a bit of the bottom and because my fingers can never rest I played a bit with the saturation and contrast. I also removed a remnant piece of the bush that was still left over at the bottom left hand corner after the cropping exercise. Oh yes, after the cropping I increased the file size back to 800 pixels on the vertical length and saved to web with the quality increased to new larger size allowed at 283kB. I hope you approve of the optimisation done.
Best regards

(9335) [2008-05-16 22:46:21] [5] | Hi Richard
As I said, this workshop was done on the underexposed version of the original photo you posted as a workshop.
Unfortunately you use Photo-Studio so I'm not sure if you will be able to do this within your software. Anyway, I thought I'd just show you how PhotoShop presents a solution to this backlight problem. Actually all the "Shadow/Highlight" settings (which were the main processing to accomplish this result) were done at default setting except for the "Midtone contrast".
Post Processing done:
1. Adjusted the "Shadow/Highlight" settings at the following values:-
-- Shadows:
-- Amount = 50%
-- Tonal width = 50%
-- Radius = 30px
-- Highlights:
-- Amount = 0%
-- Tonal width = 50%
-- Radius = 30px
-- Adjustments:
-- Colour correction = +20
-- Midtone contrast = -46
2. Adjusted "Contrast" to +3
3. Increased "Saturation" +3
4. Adjusted "Gamma" settings in "Exposure" to 1.03.
5. Chose "Save for Web".
6. Adjusted the "Quality" upwards from the original downloaded size of 136kB to 288kB.
I hope you approve of the optimisation that I've done.
Best regards

As I said, this is just a slight different viewpoint for the fun of it. I flipped it around horizontally and angled it at 45 degrees. Then I cropped it to adapt to the new format, removed the OE on the branch with some selective cloning and added a bit of saturation, USM, and contrast.
Obviously I ended up with a much smaller photo than your original posting (±50%) which I had to enlarge again, but it actually stood well. After the processing I chose "Save for Web" and increased the quality slider to 286kB.
As I said, it is just another view of your fine photo and I hope you like the optimisation done.
Best regards

(9335) [2008-05-10 23:51:08] [5] | Hi Goldy
As I mentioned I tried to address the contrast by removing the overall smokiness and reducing the rich saturation.
1. Adjusted the "Levels" on the RGB channel with the "White slider" input at 189, the "Black slider" input at 125, and the "Midtones slider" input at 0.96.
2. Adjusted the "Shadow/Highlight" settings at the following values:-
-- Shadows:
-- Amount = 30%
-- Tonal width = 30%
-- Radius = 30px
-- Highlights:
-- Amount = 50%
-- Tonal width = 50%
-- Radius = 30px
-- Adjustments:
-- Colour correction = +20
-- Midtone contrast = 0
4. Adjusted "Contrast" to +7 and "Brightness" to -4.
5. Decreased "Saturation" -32.
6. Adjusted "Gamma" settings in "Exposure" to 1.03.
7. Changed "Colour Balance" with "Cyan" at +3, "Magenta" at -2, and "Yellow" at +2.
8. Chose "Save for Web".
9. Adjusted the "Quality" upwards from the original downloaded size of 178kB to 295kB.
Just remember I had to work with a photo that was already 'modified' so the result is probably not as good as what it could have been if I worked with the original photo. Even after the decrease in saturation I feel it is still too much as the grass in the foreground is still way too green.
I see you work with PhotoShop CS3 so you should be able to follow all the steps without any problem. I sincerely hope you accept this gesture in the supporting spirit it is intended and that you approve the optimisation that I've done.
Best regards

(9335) [2008-05-09 09:30:01] [6] | Hi Janice
Just a bit of post processing to try and brighten up the colours and to address the small areas of OE on the belly.
I used the "Shadows & Highlights" tool to make the highlights slightly darker (especially the white area on the lower portions of the sealion) and the darker areas slightly lighter (especially the face and back). With NeatImage I removed some noise in the BG and with selective application of the "Magic Wand" I applied some variation to the colours of the BG, the log, and the sealion by using various "Photo Filters" or "Saturation" settings. Finally just a tad of "USM" to round it off.
I hope you approve of the optimisation as you know it is just another way of looking at your image.

(9335) [2008-05-01 03:36:53] [5] [+] | Hi Josh
As I said I just tried to naturalise the image somewhat to that what the eye might have seen with the original scene on the mountain. Due to the setting sun the light on most of the mountain area became slightly darkish and obviously the camera cannot interpret it the way the eye sees it.
So, I adjusted the "Shadows & Highlights" settings (to make the highlights slightly darker and the darker areas slightly lighter), the "Brightness/Contrast" settings (mostly to the sky area to increase the dramatic appearance of the clouds), applied a little blue hue to the cloudy sky (to slightly counter all the overly accentuated greys), and finally a slight bit of "Un-Sharp Masking" (just to enhance the full potential of the image and "perk-it-up" a bit). Anyway, it is just another version or another way to look at it and I hope you approve of the optimisation.
Best regards

(9335) [2008-04-14 04:43:08] [7] | Hi ManYee
I just wanted to compensate for the green effect of the glass, but I did a couple of other adjustments as well.
1. Adjusted the "Levels" on the RGB channel.
2. Adjusted the "Shadow/Highlight" settings at default values.
3. Added "Warming Filter (85)" at 30% density.
4. Adjusted "Contrast" to +4 and "Brightness" to -2.
5. Increased "Saturation" +4.
6. Applied "NeatImage" once to the background at default settings.
7. Applied "USM" at 200% amount, 0.3 radius, and 0.0 threshold.
8. Chose "Save for Web".
I hope you approve of the optimisation.
Best regards

(9335) [2008-03-21 21:24:30] [8] | Hi Pankaj
I merely tried to remove the slight smokiness that I referred to and bring a bit more colour to the posting. I've adjusted the "Levels" by reducing the bar on the white slider, then I used the "Shadow/Highlight" tool to balance the darker and lighter areas, I increased the "Saturation" just a tad and gave it a minor bump with the "USM" tool.
I hope you approve of the optimisation.
Best regards
