Open the picture in Photshop or Photoshop Elements.
Add a little USM by clicking Filter>Sharpness>Unsharpen Mask. In the dialog box add Amount 200, Radius 0,7 and Treshold 0.

Here is what I did:

Loaded the picture into Photoshop.
Resize to 200 ppi to have a larger picture to work on and save it as a tif-file.
Load the new picture in Neat Image and removed the noise using standard tools.
Back to Photoshop, added a little contrast and finally resize for post.

The whole operation took less than 5 minutes.

Hope you like it.

Here is what I did:

Load the picture in Photoshop and resize to 150 ppi.
Lighten the dark areas with about 20%.
Reduce the red in saturation with about -25 to get the colour of the fur right.
Resize for post.

Hope you like it. The operation could also be done in Photoshop Elements 3 and 4.

Hello Hendrik

I risized the picture to 300 ppi. Then I did the crop I wanted. Added a little curves to lighten the picture as the new crop was a little too dark. Resize for post. - Hope you like it.

Have a nice weekend

Here is what I did:

I think the leaf would draw more attention if I changed the background. In Photoshop I copied the picture into itself as a new layer. Then I cropped the background out in the top layer and gave it a little saturation to enhance the red colour. After that I removed the colours in the underlaying layer and gave it a heavy blur (7.0). Finally I flattened the layers and saved it for web.

If you do not like it please let me know.

All I did was copy the picture into itself. Blur the bg using Gausian Blur 0.5. The crop out the bg on the top layer. flatten the image.

I think the curtain-effect is stronger now and the tree is more in focus.

Hope you like it.

All I did was to crop the picture to bring the main subject out of centre. This make the cicada move into the picture instead of out of the picture. I hope you like it. Otherwise just let me know.
