These are the PUPAL stage of a butterfly and called CHRYSALIS.

A Cocoon is the silk covering that many moths spin around the outside of their pupae.

The Heliconius erato are also found in the Iguacu region of Brazil, in South America. These species are fast flyers and not easily photographed. The Heliconius erato was registered in the Butterfly House in Vancouver Island B.C. a couple of years ago.
