I have taken the liberty of doing a workshop on your picture, hope you don't mind it. What I have done is to sharpen the pic, reduce noise, select the BG using magic wand and reduce contrast and increase the colour saturation a LITTLE :-).
I really hope you like the final output.

1. I selected the bird using magicwand and adjusted the shadows to bring out more details.
2. Inversed the selection to increase the highlights to darken the background.
3. Gave it a crop and added a frame.

I used Photoshop CS3 to slightly alter your photo.
-Cropped for a more diagonal composition
-Selectively sharpened
-Increased saturation generally the increased saturation even more on just the eyespots and flowers
-Added more contrast

Jai was just short of his 44th birthday when he died on 29th October.
I took this picture of him three years ago on a pretty meadow near our home. |
