Finally took the plunge and bought a DSLR, a Pentax K100D Super and two zoom lens. First results are encouraging, though it’s quite different to the compact cameras I’ve been playing with for the past couple of years. I chose the Pentax because it was half the price of Nikon and Canon and all the technical reviews I read suggested it was just as good as the big those brands. Additionally, the pics on TN and TE using this camera look good too. Time will tell I guess.

As always thanks for all the critiques and comments.

Chris

I have been photographing nature for about 25 years. Recently I purchased a FinePix S5000 and then discovered TN and TE.

I have learned much from the comments and workshops on this site and thank you all, this site is great.

I appreciate all critiques and comments.

I have been on TE for nearly a year now, how time flies. When I look back at my early postings and compare them with my recent attempts, I think I can say that I have improved.
There is only one reason for that, this wonderful site and all the great people who use it. I can honestly say that I read every critique and take something away from every comment, positive or negative, everything helps and encourages me to try and improve my technique.
This is a fantastic site and I thank everyone who has helped me rediscover the joys of amateur nature photography… I love every minute I spend here viewing the treasures that inhabit our tiny globe and you the generous people who contribute to this great site.

In October 2005 I bought a Cannon Powershot S2-IS. Its a great camera, but very noisy at ISO 200 and above. In fact I've found that even with noise reduction software, you can't expect sharp images at ISO 400. Its a pity, because apart from that its easy to use, quick to start and gives good results even at low speeds due to the image stabiliser. Oh, well its cheaper and easier to travel with than an SLR.

thanks to everyone
Chris
