Burn Tool, Levels / Curves, Crop | elizabeth
(10) [2007-10-09 01:06:26] [2] | Hi Sue
As mentioned in my critique I have toned down the highlight areas in the background, using the burn tool, and adjusted the levels and curves to add more contrast to the image.
To remove the dark patch in the top left area of the frame, and the dark stones in the bottom left, I cropped the image. I feel this adds emphasis to the Earwig and the vertical format is more dynamic than the horizontal.
I used Adobe Photoshop CS3 to do all the above.
Hope you find this helpful.
Cheers

Further to my comment, I have done a crop to place the ducking in the top of the frame, now making less distracting light above him. I have also done a slight sharpen in unsharp mask of amount 150, radius 0.03 and threshold 0. In the saturation, yellow channel I have done +12 to bring out a bit of colour in him.
Hope you like

Image tweaks - contrast, brighteness | pauljk
(226) [2006-09-27 01:11:20] [4] | Hi Sue,
I have workshoped this image. Hope you don't mind.
1. Set white and black points using a levels layer. This pushed more pixels into the mid and highlight area of the histogram, which brightened the image.
2. Used a curves layer to pull a little more shadow detail out and removed yellow cast in image.
3. As the camera has locked focus just in front of the duckling, I've tried to sharpen the duck a little using USM in CS2. To improve things a bit more and gain differntiation from the BG I have added a vignette via a curves layer set to multiply mode with a inversed feathered selection around the bird.
4. Added a little more overall contrast into the image via a USM filter run set to 10,50,5.
5. Finally increased saturation in the bird via a hue sat layer with a mask. Then inverted the mask and applied another hue/sat layer a reduced saturation for the surounding foliage.

 Cropped, auto-enhanced | Janice
(18648) [2005-10-03 04:54:02] [2] [+] | Hi Sue,
I have cropped your photo to make the fungi stand out more. I also auto-enhanced it with Paint Shop Pro 9 and put a tiny black border around it. The border gives the photo a better edge. PSP9 may have brightened it too much, but it gives you an idea of what it can do. I hope you like it.
Cheers

 Cropping and sharpening | JeanMichel
(2864) [2005-07-14 06:18:32] [1] | | Just an idea... cropped out the bottom (sorry for the signature :-) and a bit on the left and the top. The bottom of fungi line starts with a wide section, getting progressively thinner on the top, adding the feeling of gradation on the oblique. Sharpened a bit. |

Because the image was straightened I then had to clone and crop. |

Hope you like it like this. Steve |

Off centred the feather. | Janice
(18648) [2005-06-20 04:23:02] [4] | I changed the position of the feather so it isn't so centred. I had to first crop off a bit from the top, before rotating it a bit at a time. I think the feather looks better on an angle, rather than straight on. I hope you l.ike it. Cheers
