This is another one of the many shell casings that I found this particular morning. You can see the mud still covering the skin on the back end of this shell.
As you can see in this shot the larger chick takes a protecting stance over it's siblings. It stayed up front the whole time and either bowed it's head face down while waving back and forth, or had it's wings up in a protecitng pose.
