BIG TN MEETING - Voting time!	horia (14898)	::	2009-01-17 1:38
Hi friends, I think the entire holiday mood is pretty much over by now and that everybody's back to work and to their routine. Therefore, i think we should again think about a holiday again and start deciding when and where to go for our BIG TN MEETING :) I purpose we all vote again, from scratch, so that all the people that want to participate would see again who is coming and when and where we might go. I'm reminding you that the most talked about suggestions were: Poland and Turkey. We should probably choose one of the two so that we'd keep everything simple. It's also important that as many as possible vote for this so that we can make decisions based on what MOST people want...not only few that took the time to write on the forum. It's also important to do so as soon as possible in order to have plenty of time to take care of arrangements for the location. So, PLEASE, express your thoughts. Thank you in advance Horia

And as a thread opener, i'll go first :) I had to change the period that i would prefer it in doe to school exams (from somewhere around June to August), and with the change of period came the one for location (from Turkey to Poland) because of the high temperatures then. So my vote goes to Poland in August. Looking forward for more votes! Cheers Horia

Though I would like to meet TN members, especially those whom I have got to know a little, we have commitments that make setting a date difficult. I am now thinking about November when in Europe it is still sunny either in Cyprus or the Canary Isles. Regards to all, Ivan

Hello Horia ! So, time to give my own opinion - in fact, I'm not so fond of very hot countries, so I'd go for Poland rather, specially since I have medical problems and should avoid plane if possible. As for the date, I think may - june would be best. Now you have my thoughts, let's just wait and see what others will say. Greetings from France, Valerie.

Hi Horia! Poland is good for me, but Turkey is also ok. May be August or other month, but I must to know few months earlier to plan holidays in my work. I hope we'll meet this year :-) Best regards, Greg!

I previously would have voted for Turkey but, along with Horia, I'll probably be doing exams at the best time to go there, so I will also vote for Poland at around August time. Cheers! Joe

Hello everybody. First at all I have to ask: Is this meeting at a weekend? How many days do you all like to stay? August is difficult for me, other colleagues with children like to have at this time because its the month of school-holidays here in Bavaria. So my favourite time would be May/June, my favourite countries would be Austria, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands or of course Germany. Thanks and greetings to you all ...

I would rather go to Turkey as after living in Finland and UK the nature in Poland would not be that different I am used to.

Thanks for everyone's input so far. I hope many more of you will state your personal choice and decide to join. After we get everyone's opinion, we'll sum it all up and start debating and negotiating :) A quick reply to Sabine's question (but it also might concern other members, too): we were thinking of a trip anywhere from 5 days to a whole week...so we'd get a better chance to know each other as well as to have more photo opportunities. I hope that will be ok with everyone. Again, no matter which country we pick, we'll try to find accommodation in a nice, rather remote, wild area even - perhaps a lodge or cabin of some sort so that we'll have plenty of nature around us and so that we won't pay too much, too. July and August are virtually impossible for me because of work commitments. (July is better than August, if it came to it - I work in a school - not as a teacher and it is our busiest period) Europe is also better - Health issues mean flying is also not the best move for myself. Poland sounds good - never been would love to, though anywhere in Europe that is not too hot could be an option (health issues), simply can not do hot temperatures. Emma

Hello to all. I personally would prefer August in Poland for 2 very selfish reasons...I am only able to book time off work in August and the flights to Poland are cheap from the UK...I understand that everyone has thier own criteria such as mine...Photographically wherever the destination is I am sure there will be plenty of nature to observe and photograph.....I will put another idea in for people from the UK...If it was to be Poland then maybe a Roadtrip could be possible? there would be endless photographic opportunities on just the journey...Just an idea. Hi all! Maybe I could take part in this meeting at the end of May and the beginning of June. I would prefer to go to Poland because I could drive by car with my caravan and combine the meeting with my holidays. But this is not sure because my wife and I have planned to go to the Bretagne in France. But why not Poland... Greetings Markus

Hi friends Allright...so it's been about a week since we've started voting and i think it might me time for some preliminary results. However, no matter of the current status, people that will come can still vote about whenever and wherever they think it's best to meet, regardless of the preferences so far. That being said, here is the outcome so far: 8 votes - Poland* 2 votes - Turkey* 2 votes - Cyprus or Canary Islands (either one, not each) 1B vote - Austria, Switzerland, Italy or Germany** (either one of them, not each) * Greg (red45) said he'd equally be fine with both Poland and Turkey. I've counted one vote from him to both destinations. ** Ivan (argus) voted for Cyprus and Canary Islands, but i took the liberty of placing Ulla on the same side with her husband (Sorry Ivan if this was your chance of getting away :)) That being said, it looks like Poland might be our winner here. However, there are two district periods for this locations, as the votes have said: 3 people said they preferred May/June and other 3 said they preferred August. Other 2 (Greg and Selen) didn't specify their favorite period but there is also Sabine that said that she could do mid-summer, so would also prefer May/June, but in a different location. It would be good if these last three members mentioned here would say when it's best for them and weather they would think of changing their location of the timing is right. Thanks it for now. Hi All, Majority seems to wish to go to Poland. I think we should get the "loosers" opinion about the timing as well. I am easy in that sense May/June and August are both as good or bad. There might be more to see in May/June. Cheers Pekka

Absolutely, Pekka. I'm sorry if my initial message sounded as that. I definitely didn't want to exclude any other opinion, no matter on which "side" and if you are able to change your mind and come to Poland, as well, that's GREAT news! The more the better. As for the exact month(s), we'll debate on that perhaps in a week, after we here some more votes from people that want to come (hopefully). However, i'm still hoping for August. I'm sorry, Horia, I should have replied too! I'm not keen on travelling in Europe during the hectic holiday time of August and as I'm a keen gardener this is a busy time then too. Switzerland in June would have been great but we alredy have som many other commitments. Why not come to Sweden instead?? Cheers, Ulla

Hi Everyone, I am also waiting for the others to come to the conclusion where. It looks now its Poland. Timewise people seem to vote for late Summer. I would rather like late Spring because there are potentially more active birds and other animals and like Ulla said Central Europe is packed in August with everyone on holiday. Whatever is the decision I will consider my participation later. Cheers Pekka

Hi Horia. Both Poland and Turkey would be places i would like to visit. If its going to be late in the summer i think Poland would be better for me because of the heat. If i can get time away from work i would like to come. so my vote would be poland in late summer. Regards Nick..

Hello again friends, I see we have received some more opinions and i believe it's safe to say that the majority of people voted for Poland as the location for our TN meeting from this year. I hope this is fine with the rest of your that wanted to go to other places...but don't be too sad...i hoe we could make this a regular thing, so we could always chose one of those destinations for next year :) That being said, i think we shouldn't wait too much and start deciding the exact time for our gathering. I've talked to Greg (red45) and he said he will help us chose a nice and not-expensive accommodation...but we'll leave that for the last thing. So, i now ask of you to express, AGAIN, which period you prefer: end of May/beginning of June or August PLEASE, ALL OF YOU, EXPRESS YOUR OPINION EVEN IF YOU ALREADY DID IT BEFORE, SO THAT WE WOULD HAVE A STRAIGHT FORWARD OPINION HOW MANY WANT EACH CHOICE OR IF ANYONE HAS CHANGED THEIR MIND. Allright folks, let's have a sum-up of what has been voted so far: 5 votes for end of May/beginning of June: Pekka, Emma, Selen, Anne and Markus (if he can make it) and 4 votes for August: Joe, Nick, Billy and Horia. Also, Greg and Krzysztof said that they'd be ok with both. I hope many people read this since, if it's ok with all of you, i'd like to proceed in searching for a nice specific spot and accommodation, so that we can all get prepared for our trip (especially since it might be 3 months). That being said, please let your fellow TN (or ex-TN) friends know that they have about one more week of voting for May/June or August and after that we are getting to the next step. Hy Horia Not saying yet that I will go, but I can suggest some dates for may and maybe will be a good opportunity to think about: around 22 and 23 mmay, ther are some religious holiidays, that at least in Belgium those dayse are non working days from the government! If in the rest of Europe it is something the same, could be a good moment... But, it is only a suggestion for you... Oana

Well...unfortunately we haven't progressed a bit :(( Right now we are at a perfect stand still: 5 votes for the End of May/beginning of June, another 5 for August and 2votes from our Polish friends that are ok with any of the two periods. The fact of the matter is that i personally thought that more people would have liked a meeting like this... ...And more actually said they were interested in the beginning...but apparently they gave up on the idea or something made them change their minds. I must admit i'm a little disappointed :( But, anyway, we must still decide when and where to go. For that, i have very few ideas, other than asking everyone of you weather you could change your minds or if you are also able to make it to the trip in the time frame you didn't opt for. I personally voted for August but could probably make it in May/June, too. Either way...time is catching up with us and unless we come up with a straight decision, we won't go anywhere together! Dear Horia! I can imagine how you feel. It's difficult to realize that a personal enthusiasm is not sufficient to interest many people. I have experinced this in our photo club. I also have tried to engage myself, and sometimes all what came back was critique... You had a dream, you wanted to realize it and now only few people seem to be interested. I hope that this will change or that the small group will live a fine experience. As far as I am concerned, it's not easy to decide, because my wife can't chose or rather change her already set holiday (end of Mai, beginning of June). Moreover, I can't decide alone to go to Poland as we have already decided to go to Bretagne in France. It may also not be easy for a person to be in a group of photographers without being one. If the event takes place in August, I will have to check two things: my purse and the number of days I will have left for holidays. I would like to take part in that event so much, but I can't tell you more right now. I'm so sorry, and believe me, apprciate very much what you do. I repeat what I have already said before. An alternative could be the meeting of nature photography in St. Pourçain sur Sioule in France. The advantage: it's organized, it's an exhibition that combines photography on paper as well as slideshows. It will take place from the 12th to 19th July.
