The days are longer as the sun rises much earlier in Dec and Jan.
The light on this pic, which was taken near Red Rocks in the Shingwedzi region, is slightly different to the normal light you see in the Kruger and elsewhere. The rocks tend to give off a "red" shade and I have only experienced it in that region.
I think the light tends to be very sharp in Winter in Kruger and obviously, the closer you are to the winter months, the less "golden" it may appear to be.
