I've read an interesting article about sharpening for the web and there it said that you should have your photo at double the size as you want to post it (in this care 1600px), then oversharpen it strongly and then resize it to the actual size you ant it (800 px for us). This way, you actually sharpen details that are there as opposed to sharpening after you lose a lot of details when resizing down.
