I bought it as a telephoto but discovered its use and telemacro when I first got got it and experimented with it. The result is that I use this combination for most things except landscapes.
The advantage is that no time is lost changing lenses when something suddenly appears. It has its disadvantages of course but this long-lens combination has become a part of me now.
