I agree,this is more of an 'environmental shot',necessitated in part by the tiny size of this aphid (it wasn't much bigger than a pinhead).
I like both close,tight cropped,detailed shots and environmental shots,of insects,fungi and plants,and really just decide on a shot by shot basis,depending on shooting conditions and the environs.
I've been having some difficulty mastering macro shooting with the Canon,so I'll just have to keep practising.
