Using of reflectors adds another dimention to photographing subjects and all you need to do is look at Maniratnam's movies he takes it to another level.
When ever i see a picture, I try to visualize what the lighting might have been. And from interaction and experimentation, I feel 45Deg lighting is most appropriate for shooting ( Its also called Rembrant's angle ) and Monalisa was painted in this lighting condition.
No when there is a 45 deg back lighting it tends to create lots of shadow or dark area's in the foreground and your sensor might not be able to record details there, so to get details in the shadow area , i use reflectors and its become an integral part of my setup. Most of the times a reflector is a white paper or a white hand kerchief !! |
