Further to the Egyptian cat goddess, Paul Gallico wrote a book called Thomasina, about a cat, a small girl, her dad etc, where the cat got "killed" but reincarnated as Bastet from the city of Boebastis, goddess of joy & love and on par with the goddess of war, Sagmet. At Tell Basta, they excavated a cementary of of mummies for "holy cats"
