sorry but I can't decide if this picture shows barrel distotion.
In general this Sigma HSM 17 - 35 2.8 - 4.0 lens has very little of that because it is a real wideangle zoom and was testet very good for many years on analog SLR cameras.
Unfortunatelly it does not work on many digital SLRs. It didn't work at all on my EOS 20 D but on my EOS 300 D it delivers quite pleasant results. Unfortunatelly the 300D had a shutter problem during my last trip and so most pictures come from a EOS 3 - analog camera body. I tested the EF-S 17-85 as well on my 20D and was very disappointed regarding distortion and sharpness.
For most landscapes I am not really worried about barrel distortion and I think this Sigma lens is still a good one.
I will wait another 2 - 3 years before I buy another digital SLR.
Development will be tremendous. Chips as well as concerning lenses. Thomas |
