I think this is unusuall. In the past years I sometimes found some toads, but only few in one place, never a hundreds in one place! I don't really know what happened this year.
I'm not sure birds will eat them. At least I'm sure ducks don't want to eat them. They seem to be not very tasty.
The "pond" was my fathers dream. Since he likes fishing he wanted to have his own place. When he've been saying he will make a pond behind house we've always thought that he ment a traditional garden pond. But he didn't ;-) Now whole field behind my house is gone and there's something that looks more like a small lake there!
