Yes, I am happy with the Sigma, the sharpness is good and it is not that heavy. I might be changing this lens early in the new for one reason only. When doing game shots, the game can be right at you in the one go and then next they are far in the distance. The lens I am interested in is the Sigma 50 - 500mm which will allow me to do less lens changes. Remember that the Canon digital SLR has a magnification factor of 1/1.6 meaning that compared to a film camera, the 170-500 is actually a 270 - 800mm.
One more thing to mention is that it does not have a Hyper Sonic motor which means that it is not as fast to focus as some of the more expensive lenses. The only time I miss the Hyper Sonic function is when I shoot small busy little birds.
Quality wise I love the lens and you can through my gallery and judge the sharpness of the lens yourself.
