Hi JJ,
I can only say that I've been very happy with this lens and would readily recommend it. It's quite fast in the AF and - a good thing for puny me - it's leight weight, so I can get more mms without having to take up weight lifting first (I may have to nonetheless, though, as I have my eyes firmly on the 200-500mm that Mogens just bought ;-)). From what I've heard the second generation which is out now is even more of a bargain than the one I bought, as they've lowered prices considerably.
If you want an in-depth analysis, I suggest you contact Mogens [mogens-j] and ask him. He knows heaps more about photo equipment than I do, and he has a Tamron 28-300, too.

Best wishes,

Bente
