Sorry for my slip to provide an answer to your question with regards to the flash.
I used my external flash, a Canon Speedlite 430EX which have E-TTL II capabilities. When I shoot aquarium shots, I normally pre-select both the f/stop and the shutter speed and then I would only make some adjustments on the flash exposure compensation if required. However, in this photo there was no compensation needed.
