Identification (to Felipe)JeanMichel::2005-01-09 7:17
Hello Felipe... two possibilities, as far as I found.
1° Astraeus Hygrometricus (synoymes: Geastrum hygrometricum-Persoon, Geaster hydrometicus-Friess, Lycoperdon stellatum-Scopoli). English name: ard-coated geaster. Your finding looks like the illustration I have, except there are some little darker spots on the exoperidium (the star). These are found in summer and autumn in sandy woodlands.
2° Geaster Rufescens (Persoon). English name eddish geaster. Exoperidium has a plain color, same as yours, but shows some transversal fissures. Endoperidium (the round part) shows a conic beak on the top, what yours doesn't show. Grows in autumn on pinewood ground. So, with these ID's, I'm still perplex between those two!! Anyway, whatever they are, they are amazing!
Regards,JM.
