To dormoy: same story as I told everyone else..... all ruintouristdidi::2005-01-29 9:38
Here is the story. I had 60 gigabyes of pictures on a graphics lap top, over 2 years worth. All were 3-8 megapixel pictures. I got a virus, I killed it, in the process I threw away a file to boot. I paid a man in Laos $50 to remove the pictures, then return them to the computer, and put windows xp back on. Ifelt he could have just added the file, but he told me, he had to remove the pictures.
He decided when I went to lunch, after watching him for 6 hours straight, to quickly reduce all my pictures to 98 kb-1 1/2 megabyte. He either stole my hard drive, gave me the new copies on an inferior one, or took them off, put them on again ruined. He threw away all the thousands, and thousands of pictures, except a few, not even one hundred, that I had spent endless nights till dawn working on, week after week, year after year, gone completly.........
He "felt they were not important". I could not believe someone would do that to me. He spent one day ruining them, and two days telling me they were always like that. All my over 2 years of photos of traveling are gone..... This bear was beatiful, but 7 million pixels an inch have been removed from him, all color variations, clarity, detail, blurring him, making him flat.
I applied image to double his colors, and tried to darken, and lighten him, sharpen him, ....... You cannot replace something removed. I have many pictures of the same bear, everything is ruined. This man also had ruined 18 cds, same way, reducing 8 megabyte pictures to 1 megabyte, leaving them a huge size, just removing color, sharpness, etc......... I checked them, and that is when I checked the computer, and found the truth.....
On the second whole day of fighting I said I knew he had copies of my pictures. He had denied having any copy. He started one computer, I saw all my folders. As I went to click, he shut it off. HE WENT TO THE CUPBOARD AND GOT A HARD DRIVE WITH THE SAME BAD PICTURES ON IT, MY COMPUTER HAD. He connected it to a different computer. He had stolen my pictures, ruined my copies, and would do nothing to correct it. I had bought the very best camera, the very best graphics computer when I sold my house. It is all I own now. Ruined....
The police saw nothing wrong. I was robbed a few days later of all my American, nepali, yuan, bhat, and other traveling money. Thousands of dollars worth, I left Laos, I will never return. I am positive the desk clerk at the Mekong Hotel stole it.
My spirit is not too good these days...... I cannot believe this happened to me. I tell everyone as a warning, to never let anyone out of your sight, check everything immediately.
