I think it is a great lens except for the fact the minimum focal distance is about 5 metres. I have hardly used it for that reason and it made me go for the 600mm f4. For photographing small birds it creates a problem and I found the 600mm f4 better. However I now use the Sigma 300-800mm f5.6 more than anything and I am thinking of selling the other two. If you asked me what you would buy I would say the Sigma. The minimum focal length is about the same but the flexibility of the zoom makes it a much handier lens and the quality is fine.
