Many thanks for your kind words. Having seen this species on different occasions in various parts of S. Sweden I can personally conclude that the main habitat is reed beds. I have seen it singing in sallow and willow bushes, but there are always reeds nearby. They are very sparse in Sweden so that competion over the reed bed habitat is very slight. Maybe when there are many together they choose bushes but I imagine closeness to water is necessary. Sad to hear that they have drastically declined in Holland. In N. Poland they are more common: maybe you saw some on your visit.
