I think there is a strong misunderstanding! My criticism did not concern background noise but much more the differences in brightness between the insect and the background as well as the shadows below the fly, so that the eyes and the body appear artificially light. Sharpness and focus are excellent!
My aim was only, to counterbalance the strong contrasts produced by the flash. Therefore, I had to increase the gamma-value and to adjust some parameters. These procedures including reseizing lead to an increase in noise that I compensated by NeatImage. This means that I did not intend to apply NeatImage for your original picture.
