You know, Aaltjie, it is never too late to learn photography... A lot of Point and Shoot cameras today can do easily wonderful pictures... And you don't have to go very far to find multitude of subjects: just look within your backyard :-) As a read somewhere: "The adventure begins the other side of your home door"...
