Hi Philip, there are no pathways down the crater of Rangi - I think they discourage you to go. In Akld city we have similar crater holes, e.g. Mt Eden and One Tree Hill, only they are just grass and a few scoria rocks at the bottom. Big signs "Do not enter" Many children slide down on cardboard or whatever they can. FUN for them.
Actually, it was nearly as hard going down Rangi back to the boat - steep and rough and slippery.
