I used a monopod from Manfrotto(not the carbon fibre one as this one is less in weight).

About the carry wieght..
I believe the weight 'limit' is 12 kg. You just screw it on the camera (easy).
A ball head with quick release plate (6 kg 'limit') should be working too. As I didn't buy the latter, I kept things as simple as possible though.
It used it only one full day and I didn't unscrew it; so my first impression is : it works very well
