Thanks for you comments. I'm glad you liked the photo.
They are really interesting and I've since found out that they are Cunjevoi (Pyura stolonifera), also known as "Sea Squirts" (a very appropriate name, as that is precisely what they do).
There were so many of them at the beach, and because of their brown colour, I didn't really notice or think much of them, until one of my friends pointed them out and the fact that these "things" would squirt out water randomly. We watched them for a while and were able to admire and appreciate how amazing these little creatures are - creatures that most people normally would walk right past.
