Hi Gert.
The Sigma is one heck of a lens. It's a bit heavy (guess around 7 or 8 lbs) but not as heavy as many of the other lenses in that league (thinking about the Nikkors and Canons 500/4) You loose about ½ a stop but it's fast enough and it's sharp even wide open. The focus is very fast and silent, you don't hear it at all. I can only recoment it.
