This was a parakeet at the Jurong Bird park in Singapore. It was not afraid even when I approached it. This defiant look says it all I guess.

used white tool to set color of area around eye to white
increased exposure to brighten the image
increased black a bit to improve contrast
increased vibrance to bring out the colors
selected the background with the magic wand tool
inverted the selection
sharpened
used curves to increase the brightness and contrast of just the bird
