 Hooker's Sea Lion (10) vizion
(199) | Two Sea Lions sunbathing in New Zealand's burning sunlight. The coast of Catlins, Waipapa Point.
It's amazing how close you are to these animals, when you are on the beach. While I was taken pictures of these two, I almost stumbled over another, who was hidden in the sand. I kept my distance as I didn't want to disturb them further.
The New Zealand sea lion is also called Hooker's Sea Lion and it's the most rarest of all sea lion species. New Zealand sea lions haul out in an area ranging from the Australian subantarctic Macquarie Island to the southeast coast of South Island, New Zealand. Individuals are also occasionally seen on New Zealand's North Island. |
