Glyptoperichthys gibbiceps is a well known species in aquaristic hobby. it is not breed in captivity, but widely produced at fish farms in Florida and Texas. In Texas this catfish are announced as an invader, it is reproduced in the rivers, burrowing deep holes in banks. This catfish can survive for some time even without water, so it easily go over the dry season.

in Brazil this fish have no natural predators, except of Amazon otters. even piranha can't eat this fish, because its body is covered with strong bony shield, the family of Loricariidae is known in vernacular as suckermouth armoured catfishes. local people consume this fishes frying them in whole and eating the flesh from their shield. Orange big eggs of this fishes also is very tasty.

I tried to cutoff the disturbing edge of the aquarium from the photo (bottom-right) by clone stamp and increase the photo sharpness.
