About a meter or three feet off the ground is a small hole pecked out by any number of flickers, downy and hairy woodpeckers. This is an ideal place for the very likeable Black Capped Chickadee to make home and nest in.I watched a pair of them cleaning "house" as they were busy removing wood clips and dumping them nearby.Back and forth they continued to do this preparation work so as to to raise a future family.I hope that this photo will be part of a series showing the intimate details of the chickadees lives,as I would love to get pictures of the young birds right up to them taking their first flight. The problem with taking this shot is how to deal with the twigs and branches that nearby shrubs and bushes put in the way,you see that they are part of the reason these little birds have chosen this particular location, the twigs and branches provide protection and I could easily remove them but that wouldn't be right.Chickadees are my favorite little birds so I will not put them in any danger, what to do?At any rate I will endeavor to try to get more of this little future family for all to enjoy. This photo is over exposed on the right hand side so how can I take the shot to make it better?Cropped and resized using Paint.Net. Same as WS1; in addition remove the bark < sadly that then shows less habitat >
This allows us to also use the shadow line from LR corner...

What say you?

I love yer lil bird!

"so how can I take the shot to make it better?..."

Try to use the thirds rule.
One third b/g above the bird.
Two thirds for bird , one each for head & neck...

Remove some of the lighter brighter area on the right, likewise , throw away parts at bottom...

I know it hurts sometimes to remove nice parts
but it sure focusses the view...

What say you?
Note: I have tried to place the bird's head on the diagonal from LL to UR...
