Black-tailed Godwit (48)

I took a trip to a local nature reserve this morning and as this is a shot I took today, I'm making an exception to my series of Cyprus pictures.

The Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) is the symbol for this local wetlands nature reserve, just south of Kristianstad. It arrived nearly two weeks ago and this is a male guarding his brooding partner a few meters away.

Black-tailed Godwits are not that rare but are dependent on an ever shrinking availabilty of wet grassland in order to breed in central and northern Europe.

The Swedish name is Rödspov, which means 'red curlew'
