A medium sized hawker flying in late summer to early autumn. It is also called as horsebiter, but that's only a name. They are eating insect such as flying ants.This species may be confused with Aeshna juncea. Feeds mainly in the afternoon and evening. When perched they hang vertically to catch as much sunlight as possible.

The male (above) is brown with blue markings. The female is brown with yellow markings.

yes it's a favourite dragonfly from me. And this is one I took by weather with now sun. with the 800 asa and f14 by 1/100. I had enough light for this one. this is taken with the tamron 90mm macro and the tamron teleconverter 2x. Well I must say I like the result of the experiment. I hope you like it to.

The image looked over-exposed to me & washed-out..So I reduced highlights a bit & did a quick curves adjustment.
