Curves, Dodging

The composition is spot on and the focus is good but the photot is a little dark for my tastes, especially sithe plumage of the back blends into the background. A quick curves adjustment and tiny bit of dodging to the eye brings the bird out a bit.

1. Reduced shadows and increased highlights.
2. Adjusted the levels, mid tones.
3. Created duplicate layer, on the duplicate I increased levels to make the shot brighter, then used Gaussian blur on the image. I then selected the blending option "Multiply". I then merged the layer back visible.
4. Adjusted the curves to bring in more light.
5. Slight sharpening using smart sharpen in CS 2.
