 Large whip snake (24) IulianGherghel
(1342) | Coluber (Dolichophis) caspius large whip snake
Size: adults often up to about 2 m, including tail.
Habitat: in Romania it lives only in the south, usually at forest margins, near bushes, on sandy slopes or ravines, or on rocks with arboreal vegetation. Recently Strugariu & Gherghel * has dicovered a population in Romanian Moldavia after 70 years from the last record of this species in that region.
Behavior: it is the most aggressive snake in Romania, sometimes strikes and bites humans who pass by the bushes where it basks. Runs away very quickly afterwards, being one of the fastest European snake species. IT IS NOT VENOMOUS AND THE BITE IS NOT DANGEROUS.
Food habits: eats lizards, rodents, sometimes even birds.
Reproduction: breeding takes place in May. The females lay a clutch of 5-12 eggs in late June and early July. Eggs hatch at the end of August.
Enemies: man - the natives presume it is poisonous and therefore they kill it on every encounter. Conservation: the species is declining, it NEEDS STRICT PROTECTION.

(1342) Levels on histogram Edited by:Kathleen

Hi Iulian.
Checked the levels on the histogram and they needed to come in at 15 on the darker end, done. Cropped slightly off the bottom to bring the view up a level as the eye of the snake is in the top third and also to bring the shape of the snake shadow out of the bottom left of the frame. That then has a bit of a lead in and up to the head of the snake.Slight sharpen in unsharp mask at amount 60, radius 0.3, thresehold 0.
Hope you like.
