Drinking bees in Kalivianis (9)

Underneath a dripping water pipe these bees were drinking in the sun. After a few seconds they obviously got annoyed with me as I was approaching them with my Sigma EX 50mm macro lens. It was a hit and run tactic to get a shot I was happy with. No harm was done to either me or the bees in this shot ;-)

I am still learning so I hope you don't mind this workshop attempt.

The bees are shown in fine detail but much of the shot is out of focus background. (I know it was an in and out operation)
I cropped the right side bee out to increase the in focus section. I also sharpened and added a little highlight.

color curve and blur

I really liked the bees. I have never seen more than one at a time drinking! And kudos for your bravery!

For the picture: I found that the light in the background was distracting from the theme. To enhance: I used gimp2. I selected the area where the glare was and used 'color curve' to remap the white to less bright. I then used blur to take the hard edges off the remaining glare spots. Now I think the bees dominate the picture instead of sharing it.
