 Tufted Duck, female (4) joska
(973) | The male Tufted Duck is distinctively all-black apart from his immaculately neat white flanks, yellow eye and grey bill. The female is mostly chocolate-brown, darker than the Pochard and with a slightly paler area on the flanks, similar in outline to the same patch on the male. She usually shows at least the beginnings of a tuft at the back of the head. In flight, Tufteds have very dark wings with a broad white bar across the flight feathers.

Hi Szabo, in this workshop I wanted to reduce the noise in the water and to sharpen the bird. While I was in there, I also cropped it just a tad shorter to get rid of the stick on the right. To reduce the noise I selected on the water, excluding the bird and it's reflection. I then used a noise reduction filter. To sharpen I inversed my first selection and duplicated the layer. I then applied Unsharp Mask, then applied a layer mask and painted around the edge of the duck with a black 75% opacity brush to ensure there was no haloing. I also painted the waterdrops on the duck which already seemed sharp enough. I hope this meets with your approval. I have removed the copy from my terminal.
Regards, John |
