Despite this winter being almost snowless, the frequent high winds has made photography difficult.
But as it was sunny and less windy this morning we took the car to see what birds we could find.

Of the various species we saw this male Siskin (Carduelis spinus) among a small flock that was busy eating Alder seeds.

The Siskin is fairly common in N. and C. Europe. They spread to southern parts of Europe during the winter to feed on seeds of various trees like pines and alders. Sometimes large flocks ovrwinter in S. Sweden together with Redpolls.

The Swedish name Grönsiska refers to the overall greenish colour of the male plumage.

As this shot was taken at about 8 meters it is fairly heavily cropped. The camera was hand-held and after size reduction the image was selectively sharpened.

I tried a less bluish version in the WORKSHOP

I hope you all have a good weekend and that we men show more consideration to women as it is IWD today!

After comments by Joe and mariki, I reduced the blue tone, which gives a better colour result IMO,
