 Straw-Necked Ibis (32) inked
(638) | Hi everyone,
Firstly, i just want to say a big thanks to everyone for their fantastic comments and crits and kind words. This place is such a fantastic supportive community, which is such a rare thing these days it seems..
you've all really worked wonders for my confidence, motivation and inspiration, so a big thank you!
for today's post, i have a Straw-Necked Ibis (Threskiornis spinicollis).
I see these guys all the time, but usually early in the mornings when the light isn't good, or when i don't have my camera.
On the weekend, i found a few roaming around an oval near me (Kalinga Park), during the daytime, with nice sunlight, when i had my camera.. woohoo!
I chased this guy round for a few minutes in an attempt to get him in a better position for the photo.
He was NOT cooperating, but i eventually managed to snap one of him in a nicer pose with the sun showing off his colors.
thanks for looking! |

Hi Gethin, in this workshop I wanted to bring some colour back to the grass. There are probably several ways you could do this. I wanted to try a new technique I heard of with colour burning. To do this I duplicated the layer, then selected a green with the eyedropper from the grass. I then set the brush opacity to 20% and brushed the grass, (the mode for the brush was set to colour burn). I then set up a layer mask to clean up with a high opacity (80%) black brush, by painting the bird, where I had crossed the line. I hope this meets with your approval. I have removed the copy from my terminal.
Adder since the workshop: I've experimented a bit more. I expect grey would have done the same job as the green. It has more to do with the tone and opacity than the colour, but it affects the existing colours.
Regards, John |
