Ruby -Throated (12)

The Hummingbirds have arrived to North East Ohio. It was raining out but this little guy stopped by for a short visit. I ran for my camera and quickly got this shot off before he headed for dryer ground.
We have a lot of Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds visit our backyard throughout the summer months. Their high pitched tweeting is a tell tale sign that they are perched in one of our trees, so the search begins. We normally don't have more then three come to our feeder at one time ,and even this is a large number to see all at once. I have seen videos on you tube where there will be up to a dozen or more visiting a feeder together, but that doesn't happen at our house.
The Ruby-Throated Hummingbird is the only hummingbird to live in the eastern half of the United States. No one knows for sure why this is but there are speculations that milder climates along the western coast brings about more varieties of flowers that the hummingbirds favor.
The males are usually the first to arrive to the breeding areas and establish their own territories that they strongly defend.
The tiny nest which is made up of plant down, lichens and bud scales is usually placed in conifers or deciduous trees.
Two eggs are laid with an incubation period of about 16 days. The young remain in the nest from 14 to as high as 31 days. This is much higher then any other hummingbirds nesting stage. Two broods in the same season are not uncommon in warmer climates.

Just wanted to show you how I would've composed.
In a tight frame like this, the extra space bottom makes it look a bit cramped up in front of the bird.

Hi Ron. In the effects for photos I chose the noise reduction effect and chose a 1 pixel radius and a strength of 30 and sharped the result a little using Paint.Net and used the saturation curve a touch.I hope the difference is a result you find worthwhile. Bob
