 *Turning the Eggs* (10) thor68
(4597) | What was first - the swan or the egg?*g*
For the second year in a row the Swans are breeding at
my next door pond in the Blücher Park.
While i was checking how things were going she got up
and had a look at her babies - and this was the one
lucky shot i got of that...unfortunately the light was
a bit harsh, but i thought it would be interesting to
show.
Swan eggs are greenish and have a size of 115 x 75 mm
and a weight of about 350g.
Normally there are 5-10 eggs and the breeding time is
around 35 days. 1 egg is laid every 48 hours and
the real breeding starts normally after the last egg
is there, so that the chicks all hatch around the same
time.
...in the mean time 6 baby-swans have hatched.
photos of them will follow later.
