 Lioness (34) vanderschelden
(27634) | Today’s upload is a lioness. I photographed her in the Southern part of Kruger, close to Skukuza.
I dedicate it to James (James Parker). I read James’s wonderful intro page several times and I’m consider him a bit the David Attenborough of TrekNature. Furthermore James is an excellent geographer!
And there’s more…
If you look at his map of photographed countries, almost everything is colored yellow. Some day the whole planet shall be photographed through one of his Canon lenses.
I know he also did some wildlife photographing work in South Africa with the “big 400mm”; I experienced it is not an easy task to get the lens in the wilderness let alone using it....
Thank you very much for your contribution, James.
About the image…
This lioness was accompanied by a male. Concerning the latter, you can view an eye is missing. Read somewhere that even a porcupine can be deadly for the King if he isn’t careful.
I observed this lion-lioness interaction for an hour or so amidst many 4x4 vehicles in the pouring rain… and one could say if you consider their interaction from a romantic point of view and thus not a scientific one( Bob Shannon calls this “We tend to humanize the animals”) that the King has lost more or less his proud and that his loyal queen decided to stay and even guide the King. When she stood up and walked away, he just followed her.
In the workshop you can see an interaction moment.
Technically I’m not convinced about the image….I think this is either through a bit of camera shake (1/320sec) or through the lioness…
Edited in Lightroom and Photoshop.
