A really big thank you to everyone who passed by and left a comment /critic on yesterday’s post it’s really appreciated, the encouragement one gets to improve is amazing, so thank you one and all, today I present to you the Male Bower Bird.

This was also taken on our trip up to the Girraween National Park, so rather then copy all the details across and repeat it please see the Previous Post for information on these Birds.

The original image I have posted into the work shop (so please feel free to improve on it) because I had a few problems with when I took the shot, even though I had set the Metering Mode to Center-Weighted Average Metering, (the subject was under a canopy and backlight), in the excitement of seeing one of these for the very first time I forgot to set the Exposure Compensation back to “0” and the resulting +1/3 caused the image to be slightly darker then I would have liked.

So I have tweaked this quite a bit in “Lightroom 1.4” something I don’t normally do because well I’m just so bad at it, but hopefully I’ve improved enough on the details to give you some idea on the amazing sheen this bird seems to display.

Lightroom details are as follows;

Imported into Lightroom 1.4 as a Raw file in “White Balance” the following was tweaked, Temp + 4, Tint – 12. In Tone the following was tweaked, Exposure +0.72, Recovery 100, Blacks +3. In Presence the following was tweaked, Clarity 100, Vibrance +5. In Tone Curve following was tweaked, Highlights -76, Lights 0, Darks +9, Shadows +77, Sharpening 86, Radius 1.0, and detail 25. I then exported as a Jpeg and cropped it slightly for posting.

I did some patchwork BG, removed the anklet, and selectively reduced shadow on the bird @ 2%

This is the original shot which even though the detail are there it seem just a little to dark, I should have used a fill flash or in the very least had the camera set up properly, in to much of a hurry, and to little time :)
