Francolinus francolinus - Turac (68) rousettus
(8960) | Hello my dear friends,
This is second post from my second Cyprus visiting. Our field trip go very well. My studies are mainly on small mammals of Cyprus, but I carry my camera and lens always with me. Today (now, yesterday morning), we (with Barış Saydam) got up early at six o'clock and we firstly drived to Meriç (Mora) Village near Turkish portion of Lefkoşa [Nicosia] city. Our safari started at seven o'clock. It was very hot and dried all fields. We looked firstly a rabbit (Lepus europaeus) and it escaped to shadow of reed beds. We saw many species of birds and butterflies. Some of them are Papilo machaon - Kırlangıçkuyruklu Kelebek [TR], Swallowtailed Butterfly [EN] and Bubulcus ibis - Sığır Balıkçılı [TR], Cattle Egret [EN], Coracias garrulus - Gökkuzgun [TR], Roller [EN], Prinia gracilis - Yelpazekuyruk [TR], Fun-tailed Warbler [EN], Vanellus spinosus - Mahmuzlu Kızkuşu [TR], Spur-winged Plover [EN].
One of the beautiful birds and characteristic birds species for Cyprus Island, Francolinus francolinus (Linnaeus, 1766) - Turaç [TR], Black Francolin [EN] singed with loudy sound sometimes on a higher point. They quickly escaped walking into crop farms, when they saw us.
The species is a gamebird in the pheasant family PHASIANIDAE of the order GALLIFORMES.
occurs also in Turkiye, especially in Mediterranean coastal parts in Mersin and Adana provinces.
Ivan Kruys (argus) posted already another shot from Southern Cyprus. I hope you will like also mine.
I am far from my home about a week, so I'd like this post to dedicate my daughter Gökçe, my son ibrahim Göktuğ and my wife Ayşegül as a small gift from Cyprus.
Also my special thanks to Barış Saydam (buzzard), who my dear friend and another member of TrekNature.
Best wishes to all of you
