Well the happy day has arrived, there are 6 very cute "Ugly Duckling" well actually they are called CYGNETS, they Hatched yesterday Sunday 22nd May, but of course I wasn't there for the event. I do not think I missed much as they will have been kept under her to dry off, and they do not need to eat for a day because they have the rest of the egg to absorb.
so first think this morning I went to check and she was sat with wings spread and some bits of grey fluff showing . I then had to go get the lads out of the yard, but as soon as they were gone I went back and sat down to wait and 150 images later this is the one I thought to share this one, with one out of the 6 peeking out from under mum,. She tried to get them to go for a swim but they did not want to leave the shelter of the nest, and she can back and snuggled them down again and that's how I left them if it stays sunny she might try again later.
It is a very dark image because the nest is in the shelter of a couple of bushes and a reed bed and as it was taken about 9.14am this morning the sun was directly behind the bushes casting shadows but also there were patches of sun coming through causing problems with the exposure, so not an easy time, but you one chance at getting a 1st view, so it's an opportunity that would not come again so you take what you can get.There was no opertunity for a differnt angle as the nest is at the end of the bridge to the island and there was no room to get around them with-out disturbing them.
Adjustments
Slight shadows and Highlight
Sharpen with USM
slight crop to trim to better size.

Levels and color cast

The original has a strong blue cast, and the histogram is essentially empty towards the right hand side. I corrected for the histogram and color cast to get, I think, a more natural color for the feathers of mother and cygnet.
