Common Blues – Polyommatus icarus

I found this trio of one male and two females settled on a Daisy bud very late in the afternoon the other day. Here they seemed to have a last gathering before bedtime! A little later they would have ‘gone to bed’ and disappeared deep down in the grass. As there was a strong and cold easterly wind blowing, you would have thought they would have found a sheltered place to rest. But no, instead they’d chosen to settle on a high mound exposed to the strong easterly wind. There was tall grass all around obscuring my view but I moved away some of the grass, changed to a high speed and managed to get a couple of shots in the end.

This was taken from a distance of about 1 metre with the camera handheld. It has been cropped and sharpened.
