Pseudopus apodus - Oluklu Kertenkele (48) rousettus
(8960) | Hello Everybody
Nowadays, I couldnt visit much TN and so your posts. As I already noted in my last two posts, I was in Cyprus for field studies. When I came back, I stayed in Adana for two days. Now, I am back in this small town, Niğde, again.
Today's post is a reptile species, Ophisaurus apodus (Pallas, 1775) (synonym: Pseudopus apodus) - Oluklu Kertenkele [TR], European Glass Lizard [EN] (Lacertilia: Anguidae). It was from my Muğla-Denizli trip in last month. We (with Veysel) found it in Sedir Island in Gökova Bay (Muğla: Ula). Local people mistakenly call it as "sarıyılan [=yellow snake]". This is actually a lizard species without legs and the longest lizard species with lenght of 1-1.5 m in Europe. Its Western Turkish populations belong to O. a. thracius Obst, 1980, but North and North-eastern populations belong to the nominative subspecies.
I noted "Pseudopus apodus" as a synonym of Ophiosaurus apodus, when I upload its shots. After Bayram Göçmen (boreocypriensis)'s comments, I changed species name to synonym and the synonym to species name on the contrary. I know both names and I also searched shortly, before uploading and I saw that some authors used one of two, some others prefered second name.
Thanks to Bayram Göçmen for your valuable contribution.
You can see total body in Workshop.
I hope you will like.
